Chicago police held a news conference Friday morning to announce charges in their investigation into Wednesday’s stabbing in Edgewater that left an 11-year-old boy dead and his mother seriously injured.
The boy, identified by the Cook County medical examiner as Jaydone Perkins but examined by Jayden, died of a stab wound to the chest, according to an autopsy performed Thursday.
Chicago police arrested a suspect on Wednesday and said the attack occurred domestically.
The boy was in critical condition following the attack at his mother’s home in the 5900 block of North Ravenswood, but his condition stabilized Thursday night, police said.
The announcement at police headquarters was made at 11 a.m. and included Chicago police Supt. Larry Snelling.
