“We didn’t want this. We wanted to play at home once again. “That was on my mind, but I believe in my teammates and what we can do.”

With Carlson in control, Batavia took action in the second half and defeated Wheaton Warrenville South 55-36 in the Class 4A Bartlett District championship game.

“I feel like we’re in our own heads,” said Carlson, who held the Bulldogs afloat with 15 points in the first half. “We knew we could do it and we weren’t playing to our abilities.

“At halftime we were more galvanizing ourselves and focusing on defense. That’s what we had to go out and do and we went out and got it done.”

Let’s make sure you get it. Yes, we want it to be looked at thoroughly, but you all have the green light to make your drives and take your shots, just like any other game.

“Once we did that, things started to open up.”

And now Carlson is getting at least one more chance to give his fans a show on Tuesday.

“It’s going to be amazing, especially on home ice,” Carlson said. “We’re getting great support from the community and the students. I’m really excited about it.”
