SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico — Authorities in the Eastern Caribbean say they are trying to locate two men believed to be U.S. citizens who were aboard a yacht hijacked by three escaped convicts from Grenada.
The Royal Grenada Police Force said in a statement on Friday that they were working on clues that indicate two people on the yacht may have been killed.
“This investigation is in its early stages,” police said.
Authorities in Grenada said Wednesday that the escaped prisoners were detained in nearby St. He said they sent senior investigators and a forensic expert to the island of St. Vincent.
The inmates, aged 19, 25 and 30, were charged with violent robbery several months ago. Grenada police said the oldest inmate was also charged with one count of rape, three counts of attempted rape and two counts of indecent assault causing harm.
According to police, the three men escaped from the cell where they were being held on February 18.
Authorities said a preliminary investigation led to the three men’s yacht being in St. Petersburg, the capital of Grenada. We captured it from St. George’s and brought it to St. George’s. He said it showed that he was going to Vincent. The owner of the yacht could not be identified.
