Cher filed for guardianship of son Elijah Blue Allman

According to court documents, Cher filed for conservatorship due to her son Elijah Blue Allman’s financial situation.

Cher’s petition to become the 47-year-old’s temporary conservator stems from Allman’s “inability to manage her assets at this time due to serious mental health and substance abuse issues,” according to the filing. If the judge accepts the conservatorship, Cher will receive her debts to Allman from the trust fund her late father, Gregg Allman, set up for her.

“Elijah is entitled to regular distributions from the Foundation, but given his ongoing mental health and substance abuse issues, Petitioner [Cher] The file states that he was concerned that any funds distributed to Elijah would immediately be spent on drugs, leaving Elijah with no assets to support himself and putting Elijah’s life at risk.

The news follows reports earlier this year that Cher hired four men to kidnap her son in a bid to prevent him from reconciling with wife Marie Angela King. In a statement to People, Cher responded by denying these allegations and confirmed that the situation was related to her son’s struggle with drug addiction.

“I don’t suffer from any problems that millions of people in the United States don’t suffer from,” Cher told the publication. “I am a mother. This is my job; Trying to help my kids, one way or another. You would do anything for your children. When you can help them, do it because that’s what being a mother is. But it’s a joy even with the heartache; “Mostly when you think about your children, you just smile and love them and try to be there for them.”

The kidnapping allegations were outlined in a court affidavit signed by King and made public as part of the couple’s ongoing divorce case, which was first filed by Allman in November 2021 — a year before the alleged kidnapping.

Allman has previously publicly discussed his addiction issues, sharing that he was just a teenager when he first got involved with hard drugs. Since the early 2010s, Allman has been in and out of periods of recovery, and as his relationship with sobriety has fluctuated, so has his relationship with Cher. The pop singer also openly addressed her family’s struggle with drug addiction, which dates back to her father’s heroin use. Allman’s father, Gregg Allman, similarly struggled with drug addiction.
