Chicago makes pre-Broadway tryout of ‘Death Becomes Her’

The Broadway and Universal Theatrical Group in Chicago announced Tuesday that a pre-Broadway trial of the musical version of Robert Zemeckis’ 1992 movie “Death Becomes Her” will be held at the Cadillac Palace Theater (151 W. Randolph) from April 30 to June 2, 2024. St.) in Chicago.

Stars will be Megan Hilty (“Smash”) and Jennifer Simard, who play the roles made famous by Meryl Streep and Goldie Hawn.

“Death Becomes Her” is a black comedy based on the relationship between Helen of writer Simard, whose husband is having an affair with a movie star, and Helen’s old friend Madeline (Hilty). Determined to avenge the betrayal, Helen returns home to confront the now married couple, armed with a mysterious drug that grants the drinker eternal life. Things go from there.

The new musical will have original music by Noel Carey and Julia Mattison, book by Marco Pennette, and directed and choreographed by Christopher Gattelli (“Newsies”). Tickets are not yet on sale; The show will be a part of Broadway in Chicago’s 2024 season.
