Chicago’s 2024 summer calendar featuring Millennium Park’s 20th birthday

The City of Chicago has announced its event calendar for summer 2024, starting with farmers markets in May and continuing through the World Music Festival in late September.

This year’s biggest new event is a weekend in July celebrating Millennium Park’s 20th anniversary, almost exactly two decades after the grand opening of Chicago’s lakefront jewel. Longtime Chicagoans may remember then-Mayor Richard M. Daley’s project. opened in 2004, behind schedule; It was designed to commemorate the turn of the millennium.

Taste of Chicago will remain in its new early September time slot in Grant Park, with neighborhood events to be announced later. (Not in this program, NASCAR Chicago Street Racing It returns on July 6-7. Lollapalooza has not announced its dates as of press time, but it is expected to be the first weekend of August.)

Chicago favorites Blues Festival, Jazz Festival and others return in 2024, as does the annual Air and Water Spectacular on August 10-11.

The 2024 summer schedule was announced Tuesday by Mayor Brandon Johnson and Erin Harkey, commissioner of the Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events. Separately, the Grant Park Music Festival was also announced. Season at Millennium Park Tuesday. All dates are subject to change with further details on upcoming events.

Millennium Park Residence Program: Five Chicago cultural organizations to be announced will showcase their work in Millennium Park this summer.
