David McFadden and Larkin pass Streamwood

Larkin’s provisional road map David McFadden I would start this season as a sophomore and then slowly introduce him to the faster pace of the college game.

“That was kind of part of the plan,” Carter said. “We wanted him to play as a sophomore just to be able to handle the ball because we thought he needed to gain a little more confidence.

“Playing there helped him; it allowed him to do some of the things he did on Monday.”

Fast forward two months and McFadden will be the definitive starter for the Royals.

Monday night set the tone, with Larkin scoring the first eight points of a 22-0 run that culminated in a relatively easy 77-30 victory over Streamwood in the Class 4A Conant Regional quarterfinals.

McFadden filled Larkin’s (8-22) stat sheet with 10 points, 6 rebounds, 3 assists, 2 steals and 2 blocks. DeAngelo Bay He led the Royals with 16 points off the bench.

Leaving Logan Larkin added 12 points off the bench, all coming on 3-pointers and A.J. Jones 10 added. Goblin Hunter He scored eight points for Streamwood (2-30).

McFadden appreciated the patience of Carter and Larkin’s coaching staff as he developed.

“I took care of business there,” McFadden said. “Everything was easier there. It helped me prepare for college. I played with them over the summer, so we had chemistry.

“It was pretty exciting coming in when I was first called up.”

After Streamwood started the game with a 3-pointer, McFadden made four consecutive layups, the first two of which came off rebounds. Leaver then hit three three-pointers during the spurt.

“It was just getting the rebounds and going right up,” McFadden said. “I realized I could score goals easily by doing that. After that, he mobilized the team and we set off.

“It was important for me to step up because our guys are out there.”

In a season where wins aren’t always easy to come by, Carter has enjoyed seeing the development of a future cornerstone like McFadden. It has been a bright spot for the royal family.

“I think he has to trust his own body and his skills to be a starter now,” Carter said. “He does a little bit of everything really well and works really hard.

“We are excited for his future.”

streamwood ram Quentin Ruff He completed his second season as leader. Even if the results haven’t gone as well as he hoped, he knows it takes time to change a program’s culture.

“We’re fighting to make these guys understand what it means to be a good person in life,” Ruff said. “We teach these guys how to be young men, how to be respectful, how to be successful, how to work. “That’s what we do.”

Carter knows the Royals face a big challenge against second-seeded Palatine (23-8) in the regional semifinals Wednesday at 6 p.m.

“We have a tremendous task,” Carter said. “It’s not impossible, but we’ll have to do our best. Hopefully (Monday) will prepare us a little bit.”

McFadden enters the next game with the confidence he has gained to learn and play at the collegiate level.

“It’s a good game to have a game like this,” McFadden said. “I knew I would do well. This could be the last game for the seniors. I tried to do my best.”
