LOS ANGELES – Chance the Rapper will take customers of the Apple store in Chicago on a hip-hop journey as part of an audio series celebrating the genre’s 50th anniversary.

The tech company announced Monday at its hometown Apple Michigan Avenue location that Chance the Rapper will be discussing becoming a rap star. It will appear in the retail store on Wednesday during an event hosted by Today at Apple, which offers free in-store training sessions for devices and programs.

The Grammy-winning artist looks forward to discussing his venture as an independent artist and the impact hip-hop has had on his life, including the 10th anniversary of his critically acclaimed “Acid Rap” mixtape. He will be interviewing Ebro Darden, global editor-in-chief of hip-hop and R&B on Apple Music.

Chance the Rapper said he wanted to celebrate a rap culture that “empowers a generation and gives voice to the voiceless”.

Today at Apple will host a variety of events with artists from across the genre, featuring rappers, producers, and DJs throughout August and September. Sessions are inspired by the Hip-Hop DNA, a 20-part audio sequence from Apple Music.

Other sessions will include interviews with rappers Rapsody, Lola Brooke and LaRussell and producers Just Blaze and Harry Fraud. Other sessions will touch on racial equality and a live digital art competition.

The events will take place at Apple store locations in New York, Chicago and San Francisco.
