The club focuses on the events that developed around the life of Sephardic Jew Matilda and her daughter Rasel in the 1950s, around Beyoğlu in Istanbul. The series has been discussed on many platforms in terms of addressing the Jewish community in Turkey outside of stereotypes and opening a space to confront history. It has also come to the fore with the opportunity to hear Ladino, an endangered language, for a large part of the society living in Turkey.
The script of the series, which is produced by O3 Media, was written by the trio of Aysin Akbulut, Rana Denizer and Necati Şahin, inspired by the life of Rana Denizer’s family. The leading roles in the series are Gökçe Bahadır, Barış Arduç, Asude Kalebek, Salih Bademci, Fırat Tanış and Metin Akdülger.
The first season shootings of the series took place in Istanbul – Beyoğlu, around Istiklal Street. Reflecting the Turkish Jewish life of the period, about 50 people who spoke this language took part in the scenes where Ladino was spoken. Experts on Ladino from the Turkish Jewish community acted as consultants to the series. The first season was shot in ten episodes. First season; The first part was released on November 5, 2021, and the second part on the Netflix digital platform on January 6, 2022.
