Boo Buie and Brooks Barnhizer scored 23 points each and Northwestern wrapped up the Big Ten regular season with a 90-66 victory over Minnesota on Saturday night in Evanston.
Barnhizer made half of his 14 shots with three three-pointers for the Wildcats (21-10, 12-8). He added six rebounds, four assists and three steals. Buie was 9-for-14, hitting three 3-pointers and dishing out six assists. Ryan Langborg also made three points from behind the arc to score 17 points and six assists. Nick Martinelli added 14 points.
Northwestern, which took third place by getting at least one tie with the win, finished the match with 23 assists and only one turnover.
Dawson Garcia led the Golden Gophers (18-13, 9-11) with 30 points and nine rebounds on 13-of-19 shooting. Elijah Hawkins recorded a double-double with 14 points and 10 assists.
Braeden Carrington hit a 3-pointer to cut Minnesota’s lead to 72-61 with 6:53 left, but that was as close as the Gophers would get. Barnhizer responded with a 3-pointer, Buie scored from the basket, and with two baskets from Langborg, the Wildcats’ lead in an 11-2 series reached 83-63 with 3:26 left.
