“Seinfeld” actor Peter Crombie, who played sitcom writer “Crazy” Joe Davola in the show’s fourth season, died Wednesday of an intestinal illness. He was 71 years old.

Crombie’s ex-wife Nadine Kijner also confirmed the news on social media.

“It is with shock and great sadness that I share that my ex-husband died this morning. Thank you for such wonderful memories and for being such a good man. Fly free to the limitless source of light, Peter. May your parents and Oliver welcome you with love,” Kijner wrote on Instagram and shared on Facebook. “So many people loved you because you were a kind, giving, compassionate and creative Spirit.”

In the popular sitcom “Crazy” Joe Davola was a psychopath who terrorized Jerry Seinfeld, even going so far as to stalk him and dress as a clown to scare him.

“Jerry, Joe Davola… I know what you said about me, Seinfeld. I know you badmouthed me to execs at NBC, put the kibosh on my deal. Now I’m going to put the kibosh on you,” “Crazy” Joe threatens in a voicemail to Seinfeld on the show. “You know I’ve kiboshed it before. And I’m going to kibosh it again.

In addition to his role on “Seinfeld,” Crombie has also appeared in television series such as “Star Trek: Deep Space Nine,” “Law & Order,” “Walker,” “Texas Ranger” and “NYPD Blue.” He also played Frankenstein’s Creature in the 1997 miniseries “House of Frankenstein.” In film, he has worked on “Naturally Born Killers”, “The Doors” and “The Blob”, among others.
