Pumpkin farms, corn mazes in Chicago suburbs, northwest Indiana

The pumpkins have reached orange perfection, the pigs are ready to race, and the corn has grown big enough to lose a kid or two.

This weekend or next week, pumpkin patches and corn mazes will be wide open.

Despite the rising costs of everything except your paycheck, people still want to have fun in the fall. There are several area farms here where you can pick your own pumpkins, hayrides, corn mazes, and many other attractions. It’s always a good idea to check the website or social media before heading out to brush up on the rules.

Monastery Farms: Hours of operation are Wednesday through Sunday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Columbus Day, September 16 to October 16. 29; It is open until 22.00 on Saturdays in October. at 2855 Hart Road. Tickets: $18-$23. 630-966-7775; abbeyfarms.org.

Pumpkin Daze’s 15th anniversary includes a giant corn maze and other activities.

Johansen Farms Children’s Zoo and Fall Festival: Working hours are 10:00-18:00 daily from September 15-29 and on weekdays in October. 30 September and weekends 09.00-19.00. Open 09.00-18.00 on Columbus Day on October 9, 10.00-19.00 on October 27, and 09.00-15.00 on October 31. at 710 W. Boughton Road. Come for the Children’s Zoo, stay for the 25,000 pumpkins. Trick or Treating at the Zoo on October 31st.

Dollinger Family Farm: Working hours are 10:00-18:00 daily from 11 September to 18 October. 30. At 7420 E. Hansel Road. Tickets: entry is free, some activities cost extra. 815-467-6766; Dollingerfarms.com.

This farm features a four-acre corn maze, pumpkins, and a playground for kids; plus, train rides, hayskins and face painting on the weekends.

Siegel’s Cottonwood Farm: Working hours are 10:00-18:00 daily from 23 September to 18 October. 29. At 17250 S. Weber Road. Tickets: $19.95 weekdays, $24.95 weekends and Columbus Day. Weekend and Columbus Day all-inclusive and combo pricing exceeds $27.95-$36.95. 800-304-3276; Ourpumpkinfarm.com.

This year’s theme for the 10-acre corn maze is Super Mario Bros. and is only available on weekends and Columbus Day. This farm has a pumpkin patch and lots of activities for you to choose from.

Windy Acres Farm Stand Fall Festival: Working hours are 10.00-18.00 between 16 September and 31 October. at 37W446 Fabyan Parkway. Tickets: $18 on weekdays, $22 on weekends and Columbus Day. $2 less for seniors 65 and older. Children aged 2 and under are free. Favorites like the corn maze and zipline are joined by new attractions like the corn silo.

Bengtson’s Pumpkin Farm: Hours vary from September 15-October. 31. At 13341 W. 151st St. Tickets: $19.99-$36.99. Veterans or military personnel with ID are free. Children aged 1 and under are free. 708-301-3276; pumpkinfarm.com.

Highlights include tractor-pulled hay rides, a six-lane slide and pig races. The farm is cashless this year.

Konow’s Corn Maze: Working hours are 10:00-20:00 every day; Except for Tuesdays 16 September-16 October 15:00-20:00 and Sunday 10:00-19:00. 30. Closed on 5 October. 16849 S. Cedar Road. Tickets: $15 on weekdays, $18 on weekends and Columbus Day; Ages 2 and under are free. Active military personnel and veterans are allowed with a military ID. 708-301-8845; konowscornmaze.com.

This farm offers a large and small corn maze, hayrides and other activities; including more things to do on weekends.

Happy Times Pumpkin Festival: Opening hours are 9am to 6pm daily from September 16th to October 18th. 29. Closed on Tuesdays. 16678 W. Aptakisic Road. Tickets: free entry; Attractions and excursions cost more than one ticket. 847-383-6958; happytimespumpkinfest.com/.

Attractions include rides, a corn maze, wagon rides and a petting zoo. Some events are held only on weekends and Columbus Day.

Heap’s Giant Pumpkin Farm: Working hours are 10:00 – 18:30 daily from September 23 to October 18. 31. At 4853 Route 52. Tickets: $8 on weekdays, $12 on weekends and Columbus Day. Evening attractions are available at an extra cost. 815-651-7288; heapsgiantpumpkinfarm.com.

The corn maze, playground, and pumpkin patch are the highlights of this farm. Trips to the pumpkin patch are available on weekends, Fridays, and Columbus Day in October. Other attractions include a moonlight ride, a flashlight maze, and a haunted ride.

Kuipers Family Farm: Fall festival hours are Tuesday through Saturday and Columbus Day from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.; Between 10:00-18:00 on Sundays and Mondays, September 16-October 18. 29. At 1N318 Watson Road. Tickets: September: $17.99 online on weekends and $14.99 online on weekdays; Add $2 at the door. There are eight acres of corn maze, children’s activities and a playground. Apples and pumpkins of your choice are available for an additional fee.

Woody’s Orchard: Hours of operation are Thursday-Sunday 10am-6pm and Columbus Day through October 29th. at 3223 Creek Road. Tickets: Admission to the playground is $10.95-$16.95 in September and $16.95-$22.95 in October. 630-247-9302; woodysorchard.com.

There are about 20 varieties of apples in the garden and picking is not allowed. There is a two-acre pumpkin patch as well as a Playground full of attractions.

Goebbert’s Farm and Garden Centre: Working hours are 09.00-18.00 every day between 9 September and 18 October. 30. Closes at 15.00 on October 31st. at 40 W. Higgins Road. Tickets: $18 on weekdays, $22 on weekends and Columbus Day for ages 3 and up. Seniors: $16 per day. 847-428-6727; goebbertspumpkinfarm.com/fall-festival.

Weekend admission is timed and tickets include admission to Animal Land, Little Farmer’s Play Yard, Haunted House and farm.

Richardson Adventure Farm: Hours of operation are Thursdays from 15.00 to 21.00, Fridays and Saturdays from 10.00 to 23.00, Sundays from 12 to 21.00, and September 9 to October 11 on Columbus Day. 29. If you’re looking for a challenge, this corn maze offers nearly 10 miles of trails. Many attractions await you at this farm, including a pumpkin patch.

Odyssey Fun Farm Pumpkin Patch and Corn Corn: Working hours are 10:00-18:00 daily from 23 September to 18 October. Except for September 29, 25-27 and October 2-4. 18900 Oak Park Ave. Tickets: $22 weekdays/$24 weekends and Columbus Day. 708-429-3800; Odysseyfunfarm.com.

The corn maze and pumpkin patch may be the main attractions, but there are many other activities at this farm as well.

The cow ride is interesting at the Konow Corn Maze in Homer Glen.  This year's autumn festival will continue until October 30.

Kroll’s Fall Harvest Farm: Monday 10.00-20.00, Wednesday and Thursday 12.00-20.00; Friday-Saturday 10:00-22:00 and Sunday 10:00-19:00 and Columbus Day September 16-October. 31. Closed on Tuesdays. Timed entry tickets are required for all guests on weekends. at 13236 W. Town Line Road. Tickets: $6-8 on weekdays; $12-$14 weekends and Columbus Day. 847-662-5733; krollsfarm.com.

Come to the farm for pumpkins, a petting zoo, rides, and a corn maze.

Four Seasons Apple Orchard: Working hours are 10:00-17:00 on weekdays; 10am-6pm on weekends and from Columbus Day through October 29th. 14510 Illinois Route 176. Tickets: $24-$32 for combination farm and apple orchard tickets. 815-338-5637; allseasonsorchard.com.

There is apple picking, pumpkin picking and many fall activities. Some activities cost extra.

Sonny Acres Farm: Working hours are Tuesday-Saturday 10:00-18:00 and Sunday 16 September-16 October 10:00-17:00. 29. Later Fridays and Sundays after September 29th. 29W310 North Ave. Tickets: free entry; wristbands $10-25. 630-231-3859; sonnyacres.com/current-hours/.

Activities include a train ride, giant swing, giant slide, jumping pillow, petting zoo and amusement rides. The haunted barn, barn, and trail are open September 29-October. 29. Some attractions are only open Friday-Sunday.

County Line Orchard: The hours you can choose are 9am to 5pm daily until October 31st. 200 S. County Line Road. Tickets: $3. Your choice of pumpkins costs from 40 cents to $15 a pound. Passes for the corn maze and activities range from $7-$14. 219-947-4477; countylineorchard.com.

There are pumpkins of your choice, a giant corn maze, a Kids Farm and more.

Garwood Orchards: The hours you can choose are 08:30-18:00 from Monday to Saturday and 10:00-18:00 from Sunday to October. at 5911 W. 50 South. Tickets: pumpkins cost $7 or four for $20. 219-362-4385; garwoodapplefarm.com.

Horse and wagon rides will take you to the collection areas. Check the website for ripening dates of various apple varieties.

Harvest Tyme Pumpkin Patch: Working hours are 10:00-18:00 on weekends between September 30th and October. 29. 17904 Grant St. Tickets: $19.95 online (coming soon) or $24.95 at the door. Gem mining and cornballs cost extra. 219-440-2386; harvesttymefun.com.

Kregel’s Pumpkin Patch: Working hours are Monday-Friday 22:30-18:00, Saturday 09:00-18:00 and Sunday 30 September-18 October 12-18:00. 30. 7705 W. 159th Ave. Tickets: 2023 prices not yet determined; 2022 prices were $9-$11 for a weekend ticket ($2 less Monday-Thursday). 219-690-1503; Kregelspumpkinpatch.com.
