According to reports, six law enforcement agencies were called to help the South Elgin Police Department disperse 500 to 600 vehicles gathered in the Randall Road shopping center parking lot Saturday night.

According to police reports, around 8:35 p.m., South Elgin police received a call about shots fired and drag racing in the area outside the shopping center anchored by a Best Buy store at 424 Randall Road.

While authorities determined that there was no gunshot, they said the sounds may have come from some vehicles with modified exhaust systems, and police observed that some vehicles were being driven carelessly.

According to reports, most of those present cooperated with officers who activated emergency lights and told people to leave, but a small number of people threw objects at squad cars and tried to climb on top of them.

Due to the size of the gathering, South Elgin police, the Kane County Sheriff’s Office, St. Charles requested assistance from the Elgin, Campton Hills and Bartlett police departments and the Kane County Police Department’s Forest Preserve District.

No injuries or property damage were reported.

No additional investigation is underway, but anyone with information regarding the incident should call South Elgin police at 847-741-2151 or Tri-Com Central Dispatch at 630-377-0911.
