UIC will search for a new men’s basketball coach after announcing Sunday night that it is firing Luke Yaklich after four seasons.

The Flames posted a 47-70 record under Yaklich, which included a 23-52 mark in conference play. UIC, which left the Horizon League for the Missouri Valley Conference in 2022, finished 11th with a 4-16 record the last two seasons.

Yaklich, 47, comes to UIC after a successful high school coaching career in Illinois at Sterling, LaSalle-Peru and Joliet West, followed by stints as a college assistant at Illinois State, Michigan and Texas.

“After extensive evaluation, we have determined it is time for a change,” athletic director Michael Lipitz said in a statement. “We sincerely thank Luke for his leadership over the past four seasons. He is a man of integrity and truly cares about the well-being of his student-athletes. We wish him and his family every success in his future endeavors,” he said.
