A 21-year-old man was fatally shot Tuesday afternoon near the Morse Red Line station in the Rogers Park neighborhood, authorities said.
The victim was outside in the 1400 block of West Morse Avenue around 2 p.m. when a gunman shot him several times in the head, according to Chicago police. Police said the man returned to St. Louis a short time later. He said he was pronounced dead at St. Francis Hospital.
The Cook County medical examiner’s office confirmed the death but did not identify the victim.
Ald. 49-year-old Maria Hadden said in a statement on social media that police believed the attack was targeted. Police said there were no suspects in custody and area detectives were investigating the attack.
Hadden said he would meet with police Chief Larry Snelling and nearby city council members on Wednesday and noted that Tuesday’s fatal shooting was the second in Rogers Park in the past month. 7340 N. Rogers Ave., authorities said. A 19-year-old woman from Minnesota was killed and three others, including the woman’s sister, were injured in a targeted attack at Pottawattomie Park on February 25.
Both shoots took place on unseasonably warm days. Hadden said one goal of the meeting will be to plan for the summer months, when violence typically increases.
