Brookfield Zoo announces new name and next step in major redesign – Chicago Tribune

Good morning Chicago.

More space for animals, less space for people.

Of course, not as fast as “connect, care, protect,” which is the new motto of the organization formerly known as Brookfield Zoo and now to be renamed Brookfield Zoo Chicago. The first phase of this plan is currently underway. Later this month, Brookfield Zoo will unveil its $10 million dolphin habitat renovation, and in spring 2025, its new $66 million Tropical Forests exhibit will open to the public after breaking ground last March.

‘I didn’t want to leave Ella’: Responding officers testify in Ella French murder trial

Officer Nicolas Morales heard a frantic call over the radio, rushed to the scene and saw Ella French lying on the ground.

He told the jury he thought he had just fainted but quickly realized he was unresponsive. Then he heard the soft moans of his partner, Carlos Yanez Jr., who was lying on the ground and muttering, “I’ve been shot.”

“I didn’t want to leave Ella,” Morales said, his voice breaking, “but she needed help, so I went to her.”

Morales and other officers testified Thursday that when they arrived at 63rd Street and Bell Boulevard, they saw French fatally wounded and Yanez clinging to life. As the trial of a man accused of shooting moved into its fourth day, police officers told the jury about their frantic trips to the University of Chicago Medical Center to get help for French and Yanez.

Wisconsin Governor Tony Evers signs bill increasing out-of-state bow and crossbow deer hunting license fees

Philadelphia Phillies scrap $1 hot dog nights after unruly fan behavior

Some unruly Phillies fans began throwing their favorite Hatfield meat at a game last year, sending dogs flying through the stands and onto the field like corn cans. The demand for discounted dogs has also led to congestion of lanes, if not concourse arteries, and congested spaces have led to safety and security concerns.
