LONDON (AP) — King George III., Buckingham Palace said Monday. He said Charles was diagnosed with a type of cancer and began treatment.
The palace said the cancer was not related to the king’s recent treatment for a benign prostate condition. It was not stated which type of cancer the 75-year-old monarch had.
The palace said a “separate matter of concern” was noted during Charles’ treatment for an enlarged prostate last month. “Diagnostic tests detected a form of cancer,” he said.
“Her Majesty began a regular treatment program today, during which time doctors have advised her to postpone public engagements,” the palace said in a statement. “During this period, Her Majesty will continue to undertake State business and official paperwork as usual.”
It said Charles was “entirely positive about his treatment and looks forward to returning to full public duty as soon as possible.”
