Colin Blackwell’s first hat trick lifts Chicago Blackhawks to victory

[ad_1]

Colin Blackwell scored his first career hat trick as the Chicago Blackhawks beat the Arizona Coyotes 7-4 on Sunday at the United Center.

Blackwell attempted to score Connor Bedard’s first hat trick in the third period, but the rookie lost control of the puck. Blackwell later claimed his first cap with an empty-netter.

Both he and Bedard put on a show.

Bedard proved that not all goals need to be beautiful. With the Hawks taking a 2-0 lead in the second period, his shot from behind the goal bounced onto JJ Moser’s leg.

Bedard’s second goal was a work of art.

After Blackwell tied the score at 2, the Coyotes gifted the Hawks a five-on-three power play. Bedard used his deadly toe drag to maneuver around Josh Brown’s stick and pass the puck past Connor Ingram.

The generosity of the team that ranked third in the league in penalties did not end.

The Coyotes bench was tagged with an unsportsmanlike penalty and Tyler Johnson scored a power goal nine seconds later to give the Hawks a 4-3 advantage.

Thirty-three seconds into the third quarter, Blackwell scored his second goal of the night by rebounding a shot from Seth Jones.

It’s been a complete turnaround from the beginning of the game.

After the Jackals beaten 5-2 last week They weren’t going to underestimate the Hawks at Mullett Arena, and they pounced early.

Six minutes into the first quarter, Clayton Keller shot off the post after Barrett Hayton screened Arvid Söderblom.

Keller struck again 11 seconds into the second, sneaking behind the Hawks defense and beating Söderblom. Nick Schmaltz and Hayton assisted on both of Keller’s goals.

During the Hawks’ first power play, Hayton waltzed in untouched to fire at a short-handed backhander, and when that didn’t work, five tried to stay clear of the Hawks in the corner.

The Hawks reversed the momentum with four goals in the second and a goal by Blackwell in the third, but the Coyotes turned it around. They cornered the Hawks and gave up chance after chance before former Hawk Schmaltz scored his 19th goal of the season.

Ryan Donato responded 1:09 later, increasing the lead to 6-4.

Bedard had a chance to score a hat-trick in a two-on-one match with Blackwell but silenced it.
