Forum for primary election candidates set up in Batavia

The Leagues of Women Voters of Aurora County and Central Kane County will host a forum for state representative candidates in the 83rd District on Feb. 22 and U.S. Congressional candidates in the 11th District in the March 19 primary election.

The forum is at 7 p.m. at 100 N. Island Ave. in Batavia. It will be held in person at Batavia City Hall. It will also be broadcast live and available to watch later on the BATV YouTube Channel.

Following the event, a recording of the forum will be posted on the websites of the League of Women Voters of Central Kane County League of Women Voters of Aurora Area (https://my.lwv.org/illinois/aurora-area). Organizers said the forum will be divided into three parts, each lasting about 45 minutes.

Each candidate will be given one minute for the opening speech in the relevant sections.

Following opening statements, each candidate will have the opportunity to respond to questions submitted in advance or asked by the audience, according to a press release about the event. Spectator questions will be reviewed by a team of League members for eligibility prior to asking. Candidates will be given up to one minute for each response, officials said.

According to organisers, at the end of each episode, each candidate will be given one minute for a closing speech.

Organizers said invitations to attend the forum were extended to incumbents Matt Hanson and Arad Boxenbaum, who are running for the Democratic nomination in Illinois House District 83. No Republicans are running for the seat in the primaries.

In the 11th Congressional District, invitations were sent to incumbents Bill Foster and Qasim Rashid, who are running for the Democratic nomination, and Jerry Evans, O. Kent Mercado and Susan Hathaway-Altman, who are running for the Republican nomination. release.
