The Aurora County, Central Kane County and Elgin County Leagues of Women Voters will host a forum Feb. 20 for candidates in the contested primary races for Kane County recorder, seats on the Kane County Board in Districts 12 and 14, and state representative candidates. District 49.
The primary election will be held on March 19.
The forum will be held Feb. 20 at 6:30 p.m. at 100 N. Island Ave. in Batavia. It will be held in person at Batavia City Hall. It will also be broadcast live and available to watch later on the BATV YouTube Channel.
Following the event, a recording of the forum will be posted on the website of the Illinois Voter Guide (https://illinoisvoterguide.org/) as well as on the websites of the League of Women Voters organizations supporting the forum (League of Women). The forum will be divided into four parts, each lasting about 30 minutes, organizers said in a press release. Democratic candidates for Kane County recorder will be first in line, followed by Democratic candidates for the County Board in the 12th and 14th Districts, and ending with the Republican Illinois House District 49 candidates.
During the segments, each candidate will be given one minute to make an opening statement. Each candidate will then have the opportunity to provide one-minute responses to questions submitted in advance or asked by the audience.
According to the press release, viewer questions will be reviewed for appropriateness by a team of League of Women Voters members before being asked. At the end of each section, candidates will be given one minute for a closing speech.
