Gary investigates multiple shootings – Chicago Tribune

Gary Police are investigating multiple shootings, including a fight in which three people were shot Thursday.

In the first shooting, Gary Police responded to the 2200 block of Carolina Street for a report of multiple groups of people fighting and shots fired, according to a news release from Spokesman Cmdr. Sam Roberts. When officers arrived at the scene around 10:30 p.m. on Feb. 1, they found multiple gun casings in the area and located the shooting victim, 20-year-old Gary, who was sitting in the grass, the statement said. The victim told police he was shot when he heard gunshots and felt pain in his right thigh while watching several women fighting. Police said the victim told officers he didn’t see who fired the gun.

Officers found a second shooting victim at a nearby home. The statement stated that the 21-year-old Gary woman was shot in the left thigh. He told officers he was involved in a fight but did not know who shot him and would not cooperate with police.

Police said officers were dispatched to Northlake Methodist Hospital for the third victim of the shooting. A 24-year-old Gary woman told police she was shot while watching a group of women fighting in a friend’s car. Police said the 24-year-old woman was taken to the hospital by her friend after suffering a gunshot wound to her left thigh. He was transferred to another hospital for further treatment. Police stated that the victim heard multiple gunshots but did not know who shot him.

A Ford Fiesta was also damaged during the clash.

It was also stated that beginning on February 1, Gary Police responded to a report that a 40-year-old Gary woman had been shot in the 4600 block of Delaware St. around 7 p.m. The woman in the Glen Park area told police she heard two gunshots as she entered her home and immediately felt pain in her right leg. Police said the woman broke into her home and was taken to Southlake Methodist Hospital by a relative, but she did not know who shot her.

On Jan. 31, Gary Police went to the hospital to interview a 30-year-old Gary man who was shot in the hallway of an apartment building in the 500 block of South Vermillion around 1:30 p.m., according to the release. The victim told police he was in the hallway and saw a man he didn’t know, heard gunshots, felt pain and noticed blood. He then ran to an apartment where a friend called paramedics, police said. The victim was taken to hospital. The victim told police he did not know the gunman, but when officers spoke to witnesses they were told two men could be heard arguing before the shooting.
