The senior guard scored 13 of his 21 points in the second half on Friday night as Kaneland rallied from a nine-point deficit to win 58-50 in the Class 3A Marmion Regional final.

Thus, the third quarter ended and Kaneland took the lead 44-42.

“We have some new guys out there who haven’t been in those moments as much, so they’ve had to weather the storm a little bit,” Colombe said. “We just talked to them about fighting back, not getting overwhelmed in the moment, and trusting each other. We went on a nice run.”

Marmion channeled the momentum from Wednesday’s 47-43 defeat against Burlington Central to get off to a good start on Friday. Cadets were ahead by nine points in the first half.

“From the beginning they said, ‘Not that fast.’ “We can play too.”

Carlson, who recently broke Kaneland’s all-time scoring record, gets another chance to increase that total on Wednesday.

“We’ve got to keep winning, we’ve got to keep our good season,” Carlson said. “Our crowds are always crazy. “It will be a great game.”
