A man who tried to rob a downtown jeweler late Saturday morning was shot and taken into custody by police.
The man entered Imperial Jewelry Co. from the first block of North Wabash Boulevard on the famous Jewelers Row and attempted to steal store property, an employee of the store confirmed to the Tribune.
According to police, another person in the store pulled out a gun and shot the robber, who fled the scene empty-handed.
It is not yet clear whether the attacker worked in the store. Police said the gunman had a valid Firearm Owner’s Identification Card and concealed carry license.
The robber injured by a gun was taken to the hospital and stabilized. Police said charges are pending.
