Jon Stewart returns to host ‘The Daily Show’ part-time

For more than a year, guest hosts tried their hand at “The Daily Show.”

Now the Comedy Central show is welcoming back a giant.

Jon Stewart returns to the table once a week.

The Jersey talent who turned “The Daily Show” into an institution will take the helm again on Mondays. On other days, the program will be chaired by “Daily Show” reporters.

“The Daily Show” account X (formerly Twitter) posted “Here It Is, Your Zen Moment” on Wednesday, sharing a photo of Stewart standing up at the anchor table.

He is scheduled to return on Monday, February 12, and stay until the 2024 election.

Previous “Daily Show” host Trevor Noah replaced Stewart in 2015 and leaves in 2022.

Stewart, 61, who grew up in Lawrenceville, took over the political comedy talk show from Craig Kilborn in 1999 (Kilborn started the show in 1996) and remained host until 2015, winning 20 Emmys. In his return as host, he will also return as executive producer.

“Friends,” Stewart shared on X, “After much consideration, I have decided to enter the transfer portal for my final year of eligibility. I am excited for the future!”

The writer-comedian and director and his wife, Tracey Stewart, own Hockhockson Farm, an animal sanctuary in Colts Neck.

Stewart hosted the current affairs series “The Problem with Jon Stewart” on Apple TV+ from 2021 to 2023 before it was canceled due to creative differences with Apple.

Since Noah’s departure, “Daily Show” celebrity guest hosts include Leslie Jones, Wanda Sykes, Chelsea Handler (of Livingston), DL Hughley, Sarah Silverman, Charlamagne Tha God, Hasan Minhaj, Kal (of Freehold Township) Penn, Al Franken and John Leguizamo took part. .

Regular cast members and reporters such as Roy Wood Jr., Desi Lydic, Dulcé Sloan and Ronny Chieng also hosted the show during this time.

At the Emmys on Jan. 15, “The Daily Show” won outstanding talk series. When Noah and the cast took the stage to accept the Emmy, Wood Jr. “Please rent a server,” he said.
