Chicago police said a man was dead and three others were injured after a “dispute” in the south side Grand Crossing neighborhood culminated in a shooting Monday evening.
Deputy Chief Don Jerome said the attack occurred around 5:40 p.m. at the intersection of 71st Street and State Street. Jerome said responding officers found a 59-year-old man shot in the midsection, who was pronounced dead a short time later at UChicago Medical Center, and a 49-year-old man at the ATM with a gunshot wound to the forehead.
He said officers arrested a suspect who was near two victims with gunshot wounds to the leg and seized a gun from that person. He said the suspect was in critical condition at Christ Hospital and the 49-year-old victim was in critical condition at UChicago Medical Center.
A fourth man with a gunshot wound to the leg was later taken to UChicago Medical Center and is thought to have been injured in the same incident, Jerome said. He said he, the 59-year-old, and the 49-year-old “both appeared to be innocent bystanders” to the gunfire.
District One detectives are continuing the investigation.
