Gov. Tony Evers signed a bill Thursday that increases the cost of bow and crossbow deer hunting licenses for out-of-state residents.
Measure written by Republicans increases the cost of licenses by an additional $35 to $200. The state Department of Natural Resources estimates the increase would generate $543,200 in additional annual revenue for the state’s fish and wildlife account.
The DNR predicted that reduced license sales revenue would leave a deficit of about $16 million in the account, which would be rolled over to the next state budget.
The Senate and House unanimously passed the bill earlier this month.
