MINNEAPOLIS — Freshman John Blackwell scored 18 points, Steven Crowl added 17 and the duo made seven of Wisconsin’s season-high 16 3-pointers as it beat Maryland 87-56 in the second round of the Big Ten Tournament on Thursday.
Wisconsin (20-12) will face No. 4 seed Northwestern in the quarterfinals on Friday. The Badgers beat the Wildcats 71-63 in their only regular season matchup on Jan. 13.
Wisconsin dominated the first half, making 10 3-pointers in 13 attempts to take a 47-26 lead. It was the Badgers’ second-most 3-pointers in a game this season.
Wisconsin made its first six 3-pointers, and after a missed point, Blackwell added another to make the score 31-15 with nine minutes left in the half. Blackwell made all four of his three-pointers in the first half and scored 14 points. AJ Storr and Crowl scored two three-pointers each, and Crowl also scored 14 points in the first half.
Crowl and Chucky Hepburn continued their hot shooting during the halftime, scoring three consecutive points in an 18-0 series and opening the second half with a 39-point lead.

Michigan State pulled away from Minnesota on a 15-2 run over a five-minute span in the second half.
Malik Hall scored his second basket with 11:53 left in the game and completed the three-pointer, putting Michigan State ahead 50-49. Hall added a layup with 7:25 left to take the series lead 59-51, and Minnesota gave up five goals during overtime.
