A Matteson man was charged Saturday in connection with a fatal shooting that occurred in August 2023 on Interstate 94 in Dolton.
Calvin D. Woods, 32, has been charged with two counts of first-degree murder in the fatal shooting of Travon M. Mackie, 30, of Chicago, according to an Illinois State Police news release.
State troopers responded to a multi-unit crash in the northbound lanes of Interstate 94 near Dolton Boulevard around 7:30 p.m. Aug. 28, police said.
Two cars, an Audi A4 and the other a Toyota Camry, crashed into the concrete median wall and the Audi was abandoned, police said.
According to the statement, Mackie, the driver of the Camry, suffered life-threatening injuries from multiple gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at an area hospital.
Woods was arrested Thursday and charged Saturday, police said.
Woods was electronically monitoring a federal narcotics case when he allegedly shot Mackie, according to court records. He was ordered detained while the case continues and is scheduled to appear in court again on March 1.
