Monee man charged with murder in stabbing teenager in Chicago Heights

A 50-year-old Monee man has been charged with first-degree murder and attempted murder in connection with a stabbing in Chicago Heights. caused the death of a young man and another was injured.

Oronde Hardy, of the 5500 block of Manhattan-Monee Road, was identified with the help of license plate reader technology, according to a news release from the Chicago Heights Police Department.

13-year-old David Sanchez and a 14-year-old boy were taken to the hospital Monday afternoon after officers responded to the 1500 block of Hanover Street. Sanchez died Tuesday from a stab wound to his left arm, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

The other child’s wounds continue to heal.

Police said Hardy’s actions were triggered by a verbal argument, without elaborating. He is scheduled to appear in court Thursday morning at the Cook County courthouse in Markham.
