New Year’s Eve fireworks will light up the Riverwalk and Navy Pier

Fireworks will be held again in downtown Chicago for New Year’s Eve. Both Navy Pier and the Chicago Riverwalk will host fireworks the night of Dec. 31, with midnight fireworks planned from six bridges spanning the river, according to an announcement Wednesday by Mayor Brandon Johnson’s office and the Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events. . Franklin Street, east of Columbus Drive, is timed with fireworks at the lakefront Navy Pier.

The celebrations will start at 19.30 on the evening of December 31st. Art on the March will reflect highlights from its five-year program. The Riverwalk will close at 11 p.m., and the section from Wells Street to Orleans Street will remain open for spectators until 12:15 p.m.

Bridges will be closed at Franklin Street, LaSalle Street, Clark Street, Dearborn Street, State Street and Columbus Drive from 11:45pm to 12:15pm on December 31. The Chicago River will be closed to boat traffic from Franklin to Columbus. From 11:30 pm to 12:15 pm, the Wabash and Michigan Avenue bridges will remain open.

According to the announcement, the 10-minute show will feature approximately 100,000 pyrotechnics at Navy Pier alone and is best viewed from Upper Wacker Drive along the Chicago River from McClurg Court to Franklin Street.
