‘None of these candidates’ option wins Nevada GOP primary, a symbolic rejection of Nikki Haley – Chicago Tribune

In Nevada’s symbolic Republican presidential primary race, the “neither of these candidates” option won; This was an embarrassing result for Nikki Haley, the only major candidate on the ballot.

The former UN ambassador opted to participate in state-run primaries on Tuesday rather than the party’s presidential meetings; this was the only contest in the state that awarded delegates for nominations. Former President Donald Trump is the only major candidate running in Thursday’s caucuses and will likely sweep the state’s Republican delegates as a result.

Taking advantage of a quirk of Nevada election law on Tuesday, most voters cast their primary ballots for “none of these candidates,” instead voting for Haley.

Haley previously said she would “focus on fair states” and wasn’t putting much effort into campaigning in the western state.

Also on Tuesday was the Democratic primary, which President Joe Biden won handily over author Marianne Williamson and a handful of lesser-known opponents. Minnesota Rep. Dean Phillips was not on the ballot.

The Associated Press called the race for Biden at 10:39 pm CT.
