Two Chicago boys, ages 12 and 14, were shot during a car chase, police said.

Two boys, ages 12 and 14, were shot during a car chase on the South Shore Monday afternoon, police said.

The children were traveling in a vehicle in the 7800 block of South Escanaba Boulevard around 1:43 p.m., when a black sedan began chasing them. According to police, a person inside the black sedan pulled out a gun and began shooting toward the children’s car.

The boys abandoned the vehicle in the 7300 block of South Kenwood Avenue and began running toward the 7400 block.

The 12-year-old boy, who was shot in the stomach, was taken to Comers Children’s Hospital in stable condition. The 14-year-old young man, who was injured by a bullet in his hip, was taken to the hospital in serious condition.

No arrests were made.

Meanwhile, later in the day, around 5:20 p.m., officers responded to a report of a person in possession of a stolen vehicle; This led to a SWAT incident less than a quarter-mile away in the 7800 block of South Burnham Boulevard. Far from where the boys’ chase began.

Police have not said whether the two are related. While 2 people were detained in the incident, there were no injuries.
